A pacey warmup song, spritely and spring like, set singers up for a super singing session.
Song choices for this year’s Spring Sing were influenced by the rain that poured as the choir sang ‘Walking on Sunshine’ during Bodmin’s market last summer! Choir support Debby, determined not to repeat the misnomer, voted for the all-time classic ‘I’m singing in the rain’ and another oldie ‘Raindrops keep falling on my head’ along with the more optimistic Mary Poppins’ number ‘Let’s go fly a kite’, and a hymn for Easter.
To reach some high notes, Caroline invited us to imagine ourselves on a trampoline, jumping above the note and gently landing on the right one. It helped!
Singing in two-part harmony inspired a rather poetic compliment from Binny, who joined the choir last summer. As she heard the strong notes of those singing the lower part she said: “It’s overwhelming, like a wave washing over you.”
The choir has one more rehearsal (25 March) before performances at Lanivet Memory Café, Bodmin Town Council March market and gatherings in St. Petroc’s Church. A special singing workshop, led by Neal Jolly on 2 April, brings Spring Sing to an end. Dates for Summer Singing will be available soon.
